The institution offers 20 undergraduate, 34 postgraduate, 4 integrated and 4 research programs. These are offered after conducting their own entrance exams called VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination). 2. INFRASTRUCTURE

Vellore campus of VIT has the largest spread area of about 240+ acres of land. Factually, the academic portion of the campus and the women’s hostels are to the south of the railway tracks while the northern portion houses the men’s hostels and the outdoor stadium. The parts are connected by three subways – it is the only University in India to get permission from central government to build a subway for transportation under rail track. Situated in the outskirts of Chennai city around 130 km away, the Vellore campus is known for its beautiful green campus.

Academics at VIT University is based on the Fully Flexible Credit System, which is VIT very own academic invention that gives you the flexibility to shape your academic calendar to suit all your personal needs. This system even allows you to choose courses, faculties, and even your class location and timings. Each semester entails a fixed set of exams and quizzes, with a balanced proportion of practical sessions that make sure a holistic all-round academic development. It might also look like a complicated system, but hey your seniors are there to help!

Another milestone in implementing FFCS time table tool which is based on a slot timetable. Under this, students will be able to choose the time that he/she wants to attend a theory class/lab. Thus, combing the FFCS on the go with a slot-based timetable, students can make their own timetable, and each student in a class may have a different timetable of his/her own. In order to make the learning much more effective, Project-based learning was introduced in the year 2010 in which the students apply the course principles by using the critical thinking and analytical, thus have an opportunity to carry out some of the challenging projects as a part of the course.

Students also have the option of choosing courses from a ‘basket of courses’ within each classification. Ample options are given to choose interdisciplinary courses from other programs which will even help the students to develop additional skills. Slow learners will also be benefitted since some of the essential course are offered in both semesters. This arrangement helps the students to register the course and clear the backlog in the subsequent semester. Suitable provisions are included to reward academically sound students and to carry out research activities even in their UG program.
